Re: Recommendatons for reloading 180 grain sp for Krag

Ihave always used the assumption that the powder that fills the case the most the better.

This may or may not be true, but shake a factory Remington or Winchester round (both are 180 grain soft points) and you'll hear loose powder which means that the cases are no...

Re: Recommendatons for reloading 180 grain sp for Krag

Get or borrow several different manuals. Older manuals may have more data on loads for the Krag rifle than newer manuals. Read them carefully, especially where they tell you what sort of test rifle was used. Then note what starting loads are most often recommended...

Re: New Guy

Welcome Old Chief!

Lots of great people here, and a plethora of useful knowledge too!

As for your sight, a picture would help identify the model and whether it is adjustable or not (it should be). Just resize the photos to less than 250 Kb size.

Re: Sedgley Krag 1898

Many Krag shooters have their own prefered loads that they have found to work best in their respective Krags. Me personally, I sometimes load a 180 grain soft point spitzer from Hornady, but lately, I have started loading a Hornady 165 grain boattail soft point and 38.6 grains of IMR 4064 with amazi...

Re: Father and Pretty Boy Floyd

What an incredible story, and a couple of awesome Krags too! It's great when you can learn the history of your rifle. I love the stories of men like Floyd, Barrow and Parker, Dillinger, etc., and have read all of the books! Thanks very much for sharing the photo and history!

Re: Krags in a store

Me too. I love just walking around window shopping! I've been stocking up on reloading supplies lately. I've got around 200 rounds of 30-40 brass and almost 200 rounds of 30-06 brass to load. I'm also going to start loading 45 ACP and 38 special. I always stop in the rifle section to look, and I'm a...

Re: Krags in a store

Incase anyone is interested, I went to Cabelas again on Saturday, and that 1898 Krag is still there. It took all I could muster (and thoughts of my wife yelling at me) to leave without the gun! If you can get to Dundee, MI and can swing the 1,199 bucks... it looks like a great rifle to me!
