Re: Krags and Polar Bears

Back in 1974, I met an tiny old woman who told me a tale about Krags and Polar Bears. In 1916, she had just graduated from Columbia University, in Manhattan, with a degree in Applied Arts. She was a professional photographer. On her 20th birthday (1916), she married Ken, a geologist employed by a No...

Re: The DCM, the NRA, and the Krag Carbine

My understanding of the purpose behind the Benecia carbines was to keep a skilled workforce employed. Post-WW1 War Dept budgets had been cut, but the professionals, especially the Navy, expected a war with Japan, probably in the Philippines. Benecia was the only west coast arsenal, and was on a dire...

When I look at the "double JSA" photo, I think I see 2 faint outlines of part of an inspector's stamp above them.

Re: Senate Border Bill unveiled ....

Truth! And certainly not funny. Even if you do not like Trump , or simply consider him to be the lesser of two weevils, we have GOT to get rid of the current shitshow in DC (AND those in the Liberal/Woke large cities) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The good old days of Harry Truman, and Democrats who lo...

Re: Want To Put An Unusual Barrel On A Krag

Back in the days of $2 Krags, the Krag cartridge was considered by some to be "too powerful" for deer hunting. The issue bullet was apt to go completely through the deer and keep on going. When I started messing with Krags in the 1950s, I saw several rebarreled to .30/30. I never saw one r...

Re: Krag Better Than M16?

The .276 that the Brits used for the P13 was close to a non-belted magnum in performance. Great for riflemen, but it would have produced an army of flinchers if they tried to train conscripts with it. Great rifle, really good sights, but Oh My! It was a loudenboomer! The .276 Pedersen was a worked o...

Re: Looking for a sporterized stock

I'm glad the hot blue worked properly. I've seen a lot of them turn an ugly shade of purple. Back in the 50s and 60s, it was so common we called it "Krag purple".

Re: 1887 Enfield Martini Henry

I've never really put the AH on paper. The military sights go up to something like 1200 yards. I loaded some cases with 48 grains of FFg, compressed the load and followed that with greased wads. Used commercial RCBS 480 grain lead bullets supposedly for the M-H. They seated "properly". I w...

Re: 1887 Enfield Martini Henry

Here's a competitor, lost out in the experiments before the Martini-Henry was adopted. This is an Alex Henry, made by BSA in 1869, perhaps in their first week (or day?) of production, the 5th rifle produced. The BSA "APU" action patent use number started with 5. This rifle has an APU 9 sta...
