Re: Has anyone installed a Criterion Barrel on a Krag?

Eric,

I have a Criterion barrel still in the shipping tube somewhere up in the rafters of the shop. At some point I will go foraging for it, and let you know ..... Don't hold your breath, tho ... moving kinda slow these days. :)

Re: Preferred sight for shooting-1901 vs 1902

The M1901 sight has the potential for more precise and repeatable elevation adjustment, if you have a suitable sight micrometer. The aperture is way too small for most us; if you are target shooting, remember that you need to be able to see and read your target number as well as focus on the ...

Re: 1901 vs 1902 sight, Part Deux

The M1902 rear sight is a tangent type with better windage adjustment. The elevation is locked with a clamp slide. The sides of the "ladder" and the clamp are serrated to help prevent the elevation clamp from moving as the rifle recoils. The size of these serrations determines how fine you...

Re: Preferred sight for shooting-1901 vs 1902

If you own an O'Hare micrometer for the M1905 rear sight of the M1903 rifle (0r the Ray-Vin recent reproduction), you can use that to set the elevation on the M1901 Krag sight precisely and repeatably. Windage is another matter. There is a friction clamp on the front of the M1901 sight ... you move ...

Re: Almost a new Krag Owner

I have rifles with groove diameters ranging from .3075 to .313. Most seem to be in the .309-.310 area, and will shoot tolerably well with the usual .308" diamter jacketed bullets.

For CMP vintage competition, you will be shooting at only 200 yards and at a target with a very large t...

Re: My first Krag is a carbine

The front sight mounting appears to be one that was offered by Stokes-Kirk back in the day ... similar to, but not the same as, the fixed and moveable bases from the M1903 Springfield that were often used on shortened rifles.

Re: Poor accuracy from my new to me 1894

It took me YEARS to find a Norwegian Krag with a decent barrel, and my patience finally paid off: it is more than "decent", it's excellent.

Rebarreling is your best option if you want to hit what you shoot at with that rifle. Just remind the gunsmith that Norwegien barrel...

Re: 1898 Rebarrel

OK, but how much fun can it be to shoot if you can't hit what you're aiming at, whether that's a beer can or the ten ring of the MR-1 target? With a worn bore, assuming he can reliably get 2" groups @ 50 yards, that does not necessarily translate to 4" @ 100. Dispersion from poor barrels i...
