New to me 1898 Krag and now a sniper too
The rifle was not modified at all... I simply removed the original sideplate and replaced it with another.... 3 screws thru/locktight and ground off on the back as the magazine still functions correctly. The Krag came with the DCM paperwork from 1933 a sold to L. Glenn...1 Krag rifle and a barrel as...

Re: Opinions lessons ? Gun broker auction
Sorry, my response about the serial numbers being recorded I thought was directed at myself...and that is simply an opinion based upon other rifles in teh US at the time.
I'd be interested if some had the serial listed when purchased and I don't know if I will receive more than that one typed page.

Re: Opinions lessons ? Gun broker auction
Not that I am aware of...no one cared about serial numbers when buying a weapon then as there was no need to keep that info. When I bought my Mauser at Sears and Roebuck back in the mid 60's they didn't note the serial number on the receipt either. Just an 8 mm Mauser 1944 (actually 7.9 but you know...

Re: Opinions lessons ? Gun broker auction
I will post the pics when the rifle arrives with the documentation.... I just pulled up some search's and according to those Brophy gave some dates/serial numbers but they are way off from Poyer/Mallory etc. The stock is also stamped 1898. Interestingly, in the letter from 1933 the buyer bought the ...

Re: Opinions lessons ? Gun broker auction
Thanks, I enjoy different military models...some WW2 snipers etc. but the Krag has always intrigued me. I enjoy the history and research each weapon as that is part of the fun...and reload for them too. All go to the range. Any idea on the serial number? I am looking at Poyer's book and it appears h...

Re: Opinions lessons ? Gun broker auction
I was in the market for Krag shooter and did purchase a Krag on GBroker about the time this rifle was offered. I did not consider this one as I knew it would be at the high end and I wanted a nice shooter to reload for. I got the one that had been in the same family since purchased in '33 by the sel...
