Re: Decent into Madness - Lack of Case Trimming
A slightly smaller expander ball will take away the need for crimping, especially with a bullet that does not go below the neck/shoulder junction. I have a few different size expanders since I shoot various sized cast bullets. I've got some really good groups with cases that were a few thousandths t...

Re: Norwegian Krag 6.5x55 safe loads!
There is a lot of 6.5x55 data with start pressures and some relatively mild max pressures of around 46,000CUP on the Hodgdon reloading website. Pretty good selection of powders used too.

Re: CCI Large Rifle BR-2 Primers
Swiped someone else's answer to the same question. It's over 10yrs old. "Rumor has it, and I *don't* have this on good authority but seems I've read/heard this from several different sources....that the difference between a CCI200 and CCI BR2 is which employee is overseeing the machine while th...

Re: The Famous Krag Cast Bullet
Mt first 30 caliber mold also, but the NOE version that has a .302 bore rider for those slightly oversized Krag bores. At the time I bought it a lot of people were complaining about undersize Lyman molds. Shoots good, I wouldn't be afraid to shoot a match with some of the better loads. Always reliab...

That is a very big flash hole in those cases. I've experimented some with changing the diameter of flash holes, bigger ones do cause more primer flattening with all other variables the same.

Re: .30 Purdey Flanged in a US Krag
Back in the 90s I found George Nonte's book on case conversions at my local university's library. I noticed the dimensions the 30-40 and Purdey shared. I think one can get a 150gr going 2700fps out of a Krag w/o too much pressure, with the right powder, somewhere in the 4350 burn rate, but not as sl...

Re: Restore it or Leave it.
It'd be tough to find a piece to match that Italian walnut in order to fabricate the rest of the forearm. I had one made of European walnut that's still around somewhere and I have a few sample pieces of European walnut that the vendor sent me. None wide enough. I noticed that Japanese Type I rifles...

Re: Newbie with butchered Krag
After you cleaned the finish off I immediately noticed the cut ahead of the magazine gate. I wondered what it was and now see the S&K mount.

Re: There I was...
It's pretty common with the K31 to accidentally stuff the bullet into the nigh nonexistant throat. I went with bullets that are of a secant ogive design. The Sierra Tipped Matchkings can be seated out to max magazine length but tangent ogive bullets like Nosler Custom Competitions or regular Matchki...

Re: Reloader 19 in 30-40 Rifle
I've used RL19 quite a bit, there used to be some data on the Swiss Rifles website. There was a section of Krag loads useful for the 1889 Swiss rifle, a few with RL19. RL19 will get up to pressure with a 150gr bullet, 4831 will not do that without some major compression. It is very much like 4350 in...
