Re: Best Bullet for Match Shooting (Not a 30-40 Question)

Barrel twist rate is a big factor to consider when deciding what bullet weight. Too fast a twist and some bullets start coming apart before they get to the target. Too slow a twist and the bullets don't stabilize, nothing like hitting the target next to the one you're shooting at, w/o it being a cro...

Re: Shooting at Camp Perry 2020

To early for me to say. I'm thinking of trying to shoot the ORPA state championship match Jun 25th. It's an 80rd match on the Kongsburg targets. I don't know if I can hold my 13lb Garand up through a 80rd match! The entry fee is about the same as CMP, so I get more bang for my buck! Wonder if they l...

Re: Check and Double Check .30 Remington

I just ran across some of the 30 Remington factory rounds that I fired. Now I see why I decided to pull bullets and stick em out in the lands a bit, they have primers protruding as much as .019" Might take a couple firings to get the shoulder where it's supposed to be at the low operating press...

Re: PRIMERS

Guys probably still have the strike anywhere matches they bought during the last primer shortage. I know I still have mine! I did manage to find a collector brick of Herter's primers back then. They were Japanese made, every one of them went bang and I developed some accurate loads with them.

Re: Check and Double Check .30 Remington

I have a model 14 made in 1913, chambered in 30 Remington. The chamber is a bit sloppy and I found it best to seat a bullet out into the lands and single load them for the first firing. You don't get a lot of case stretch then. The 14 is somewhat picky about bullet shape and oal. It looks to me like...

Re: New project 169 gr. SMKs

I'm sure you'll find the right combination. I used Nosler 168s last time I shot at Camp Perry. The low score wasn't due to the load! I've have had good results with Sierra's Tipped Matchking in a K31 and shot a sub moa 5 shot group@100yd out of my scoped Garand using 46.4gr of 4064.

Re: Ha HA!

Camp Perry happened, but I wasn't there. I was going to try and make the Garand match, but found I had loaded some cases that contained many dud primers! That was at the last minute, no time to pull them down and reload. There is some good in it though, once I got them reloaded I went to the range a...

Re: Scout Scope Mount

Looks good. Ocular bell right where it's needed. Some of the pistol scopes I have tried have to be really out there. Then there's the ones called Intermediate Eye Relief, like one old Redfield I tried. It would be over the receiver. Must be nice to have the skills and tools needed.

Re: U.S. patent on Krag-Jorgensen Cartridge Holders

I'm not quite seeing what's supposed to happen, how do you get then out. Maybe squeeze it so that that dimples no longer contact the case and the rounds fall out?
