Re: Fantastic Krag Revelation by Joe Farmer...

I bought Joe Farmer's book. Photos are horrid, but that's a function of being reproduced on a copy machine. Read it 3 times. There is a lot of information, and after 3 times around, I understand Joe's explanation of the armory production processes that evolved along with the Krag. But the whole busi...

Ten years of Kamila is more likely. That's why I voted for the other guy.

Re: Model 1883 Winchester-Hotchkiss rifles in use

By identifying the rifles as Winchester-Hotchkiss you proved that you have better eyes and references than I. The Wikipedia reference to this Yosemite tells us that the Michiganders were the entire crew throughout the SAW and actually saw action in the Third Battle of San Juan, firing 251 shells fro...

Re: Krag .45 acp caliber - pressure gun

Winchester used their Model 1885 Single Shot actions for pressure test and load development for the Winchester Self Loading series of cartridges (.351, .401, etc.) Makes sense. They were after information, not functional testing.

Re: Want to Time Travel to 1893?

I'm still blown away by the magnitude of the whole undertaking. My wife & I went to the 1967 World's Fair in Montreal. I don't think it was as big as this. In Montreal, new apartment buildings had been built with the idea that they could rent them furnished to fair-goers at quite high prices. We...

Re: Want to Time Travel to 1893?

Just think about the millions of man-hours and woman-hours that went into building that show. How many people? Lots!! Construction took a couple of years, but back then, there were not many small power tools. There were residential buildings (apartments, hotels) constructed to house the builders, th...

Re: Want to Time Travel to 1893?

The Exposition in Chicago was what brought my mother's family to the US from Canada. Jobs! Mom's grandparents had just lost 3 of their 6 kids to infectious diseases spread through a municipal water system. They sent the surviving 3 to a relative's farm and went to Chicago in 1891 or 1892. Both got j...

Re: The 1950's had style ....

I grew up in the then not rapidly changing cornfields 60 miles west of Chicago, graduated from HS in 1958. The town I lived in had a big Finnish population. Those things on the back of the latest cars were "tailSwedes". Don't remember any sort of CD drills at school, any of that. Must be a...

Re: Help with accuracy

The reference to the foam wad bothers me. If you retain the foam wad in the neck of the cartridge case, that's OK. BUT if the foam wad is allowed to come into contact with the 4227, to hold the powder in position near the primer, or if it falls through the case neck and into the powder space, you ar...

Hard to tell with all that wind. I moved the rear sight 4 graduated lines to the left. No idea what a graduation is. Could/should have moved it another 2.
