Re: Source for odd/uncommon taps & dies.
To have a custom tap built will be very expensive, maybe a member here could become the tool loaner repository. If any one wants to take that on I will donate my 35/40 reamer to the cause.

Re: barrel wrench
Almost looks like the tool was made for another purpose. Usually the barrel vice is mounted on a heavy bench and the action is turned with some type of wrench. You may make square OD and round inside bore bushings to fit or possibly just use bent soft aluminum or brass sheet metal Vs to fit?
Th...

Just some thoughts:
1 the carbine hand guard could be quite valuable especially if it has not been molested
2with a cut down stock, barrel and blued receiver you do not have anything to work with in trying to do a restoration
3 as far as ruining a classic, there are many near original...

Ok... help me out here... it says Hogs look like Bears. Correct me if I'm wrong (and I usually am, LOL) but aren't Bears normally a heck of a lot larger than Hogs? Or are we referring to the tundra bound Polar Hogs... or rocky mountain Grizzly Hogs?

Heehee ;D
<br /...

<r>Almost got caught up in the shop and did some more work to this gauge. Special length screws will be here in a couple of days so the parts are just propped up to look like it is assembled. Need to make the indicator end and a zero setting gauge and it will be complete.
Way past quick and di...

Re: Krag Star Gauged Barrels
Quote from local boy "A statistical sampling was made service-rifle barrels during production runs to ensure that they did not exceed maximum and minimum standards." Fore runner of today's statistical process control? If so one with a star gauge mark would be no better or worse than the on...

Re: Krag Star Gauged Barrels
It has been 40+ years since my discussion with my Dad, but I seem to remember mention of a star shaped gauge to measure the rifling ID. Rounded points to contact the rifling may have been involved, hence the shape? Gauging to confirm all measurements are in spec would not necessarily give you the mo...
