Re: Dark bore
It would seem to me that a dark bore could be like your bluing on the outside, a micron thin oxide coloring. I think clean would be best instead of polishing till bright. On the bore I think it would be impossible to polish and have the bore to be the same diameter from end to end with a rotary tool...

Re: How does magazine cut off work
Can you easily remove the sight and post some photos? I think most of the no drill sights involved pulling the cutoff lever out. The part of the sight that inserts into the cutoff hole should be relieved so that cartridges should feed from the magazine.
I wonder if that part of the sight was m...

Re: Stock bedding
Glass bedding and use in completion has already been mentioned. For a Krag that will never be used in competion, maybe some epoxy behind the magazine box would help distribute the load when firing and help prevent cracking.
As for pillars I do not think they would help. Besides doing pillars on...

Re: Barrel Band for Krag Sporter
<r>This is a late follow up to Jim's barrel band installation. I made the fit of the escutcheon a little tight and Jim had a mishap and made the recess under the stock too deep. I made him a washer from a hard engineering plastic to take up the space and get the escutcheon flush with the stock again...

Re: Winchester 296
Parashooter is an expert on loading and terminology. Was unaware of the different ways the term could be used.

My introduction to "reduced loads" was my father using 20 grains of Unique in an 30-06 case with a 110 or 100 grain plinker. He told me about trying it first with a 11...

Re: Winchester 296
A double charge with a fast burning powder scares me. I do it myself, but you need a quiet area to work with no distractions. I made a rule never to put powder in a case unless it was upside down when I picked it up.
I finish loading the bullet before touching another case. Ever one has there o...

Re: Ammo 29 & 30
The trick will be not damaging the barrel. If it does not come out with some easy prodding with a cleaning rod I would take it to a gunsmith.
If it was mine I have some possible answers in my shop, but most people do not have so many lathes they need a paper and pencil to count them.
<br ...

Re: 30-40 krag Bullet
Since the 150s are handy, they would be my first try. If they do not feed well or are not accurate then try one of the other suggestions.

Re: New (2019) information on Kraghaus rails.
<r>"Fixed the nasty word censor, must have got lost in the last up date!! Go ahead and cock your Krag"

Who would have thought of that? Maybe the spell checker will one day learn that Krag is not misspelled.

Any way a photo of the short rail made before I heard of Krag...

Re: Krag Rear Sight Screw Threads?
Boy, am I glad you did not go away.
I learned about that using the external engines over at Practical Machinist. The forums are using software that just is not that good for finding internal stuff. Maybe if you know the exact wording and spelling used in the thread. Yahoo and google are not set...
