Re: Finally...I am a US Krag rifle owner

<r>'pcarpenter': I think 'Parashooter' covered what probably happened in your contact with 'JoeDe'.

Thanks for posting pics of your bolt parts. Your bolt body is an 1896 bolt. It looks like your mainspring is 33.5 coils (used on 1896 and early 1898 rifles), and your Firing pin is U.S.<br ...

Re: 1896 Carbine sights

The value of a correct model 1896 carbine sight is going to be dependent on condition, however, on ebay auctions, they seem to bring $400 to $550, if memory serves me right.

Re: Finally...I am a US Krag rifle owner

'pcarpenter': Welcome to the KCA Forum. That is an interesting Updated model 1892 Krag you have acquired.

Your first step is Free. Turn your rear barrel-band around so that the "U" is on the right side.

I think you are correct about the Striker-Rod, it appears to be...

Re: Where to go from here?

<r>'Rev.e': Here are some aids to help you.

1. KCA Schematic and table of part names.

2. Photo showing side-plate removed, to easily test follower action.

3. Photo showing magazine-door hinge pin rotated, to allow inspection and light lubrication of spring tip and ca...

Re: Where to go from here?

'Rev.e': Welcome to the KCA Forum.

Your description does not clearly communicate the multiple problems you are reporting or provide possible clues.

1. Did the cartridges that failed to fire have a strong firing pin indentation on their primers?

2. Magazine feed probl...

Re: 1899 carbine serial number help?

Krag #356122 was probably assembled around November of 1901. Nothing is very close in Frank Mallory's list in "The Krag Rifle Story".

'Newly', welcome to the KCA Forum.

Re: Krag side-plate mount

Yes 'gnoahhh', those are all good ideas. I am thinking Cataract Tool did something like soldering a block or base on a side-plate.

If I ever pursue making a 'replica Cataract rig', I will use a side-plate and barrel-band that someone ruined by 'refinishing'.

Re: FINALLY got a Norwegian Krag.

IMHO - I really think this gets over thought. I think the greatest danger is 'under loads' that risk Detonation.

I would use 'starting' loads, for 6.5X55 Swede, from an up-to-date manual, like Hornady's and use medium burning powders like IMR-3031, 4895, or 4064. A good way to lower press...

Re: Krag side-plate mount

<r>I guess I will order a copy of this 1899 reprint from Cornell Publications. Hopefully, it shows better detail of the Cataract Mount.

Note - The catalog page shows a (Long) Lee-Enfield with the Cataract equipment.
<IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/ya...
