Re: Questions on my 1899 Kraig
<r>'muleyy': Your Krag, #482456, was built as a Model 1898 Rifle, around September, 1903, near the end of Krag rifle production. Krag receivers were numbered prior to assembly and went into parts bins. They were not built and issued in numerical order, so dating is approximate.<br /><br />I agree wi...

Re: Production Dates for the Redfield Model 70K Sight
According to Nick Stroebel's book, "Old Gunsights & Rifle Scopes":
Redfield introduced the #70 Micrometer Receiver Sight in the early 1940s. It was offered with both the coin-slotted 'Hunter' knobs and knurled 'Target' knobs. Production of the #70 ended in 1964.

Re: Identifying my buddy's new Krag Carbine
IMHO, your friend bought a rare model 1898 carbine in very nice condition. He should forget 'Deer Hunting' with this Krag, due to its scarcity and high value. The "No Drill" Redfield #70-K rear sight should be removed and 'Cut-Off' replaced. It would be wise to contact Joe DeChristopher or...

Re: Identifying my buddy's new Krag Carbine
Your buddy lucked out! I would like to see the front sight.<br /><br /> The stock, hand-guard, rear-sight (carbine sight is worth $600), and barrel-band are 1898 carbine. The receiver #133XXX is in the model 1898 carbine range and was built in 1898. <br /><br />Only 5,000 model 1898 carbines were ma...

Re: Butt Plate
<r>'S.B.': The knurled end of the oil container can be seen below the three cleaning-rod ends. (There is some confusing reflection because the 'oiler' is nickel plated).<br /><br />The 'oiler' is put in the bottom of the butt-trap 1st. Then the 3 rods are inserted into their individual holes and kee...

Re: .22 Krag
Does the Springfield made .22 cal. GPR use a standard model 1898 Bolt? Danny's bolt appears to have damage to the bolt face flange.

Detroit Test
<r>I suppose every locale has some peculiar place and street names. An 'outsider' will struggle and mispronounce them.<br /><br />I don't know about the current generation or population, but, older generations from Detroit and vicinity rattle off these names without blinking or hesitation:<br /><br ...
