Nah. I understand a good quality scratch awl works as well - no rock and roll. The contour I ground was just to provide strength with the more brittle material used (worn chainsaw file).

I am surprised that .0005 inches per side would make much difference. Also think that .307 would be within acceptable tolerance for a 30 caliber. I haven't responded to this one because I agree with FredC that the OP's basic premise - a .001" smaller bullet making much difference in fouling - ...

Not a recipe, it's a technique for applying shellac. Search "French polish" to find many tutorials - or ask someone who makes/repairs fiddles. Don't use uppercase "P", avoiding instructions for kissing Poles.
