Re: Norwegian Krag M.48 Moose Rifle by Kongsberg

. . .I bought some Winchester 30-40 Krag from him, I went to the range last week with a friend who is an avid shooter and Re-loader intending to shoot it and discovered it was not going into battery. . . Upon further research I found a link to another website . . . which has some photo’s and specs ...

Nah. I understand a good quality scratch awl works as well - no rock and roll. The contour I ground was just to provide strength with the more brittle material used (worn chainsaw file).

Re: Any Source of 180gr and Up .307 Diameter Jacketed Bullets?

I am surprised that .0005 inches per side would make much difference. Also think that .307 would be within acceptable tolerance for a 30 caliber. I haven't responded to this one because I agree with FredC that the OP's basic premise - a .001" smaller bullet making much difference in fouling - ...

I've found the old-fashioned pierce/pry method of Berdan decapping both quick and reliable, even with stubborn primers -

21 inches? :o
I have been under the impression it was 22 inches.

Re: New To Me Sporter Norwegian

Lovely piece of wood! Hard to tell from the pictures, but if it's an altered M1912 carbine stock there should be evidence of fillers or wood plugs near the stock toe where the holes for the original sling eye and cross-screw were located. Image below gives dimensions of these two parts. A similar fi...

Re: What Do I Have?

The arm in the pictures appears to be a cut-down U.S. Model 1896 rifle. Handguard, forward portion of forestock, several inches of barrel, and front sight have been removed. A non-original front sight has been installed. The serial should be present on the left side of the receiver. A sharp, well-li...

Re: Advice on refinishing wood?

Not a recipe, it's a technique for applying shellac. Search "French polish" to find many tutorials - or ask someone who makes/repairs fiddles. Don't use uppercase "P", avoiding instructions for kissing Poles. ;)

Re: Advice on refinishing wood?

. . . I still need to try sealing the wood pores of these forearms to better match the surface finish of the original wood. 'Parashooter' has shared a technique called a 'French Rub', that uses thinned shellac. The 'rub', if done correctly, seals the wood pores and gives the surface a pleasant surf...

Re: IMR 4198 And Confusing (to me) Load Data

Looks to me like Speer authors arbitrarily chose to use 4759 for the mid-weight projectiles and 4198 for the "extremes". Could simply be what was handy that day. Either will work, as seen in this "maximum load" data from IMR (columns are: powder ID, grains, velocity, pressure in ...
