Re: Sight Offset Question
There is a single "P" lying on its left side stamped on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver. Is that the P proofmark?

Re: Sight Offset Question
Dick, the rear sight is in near perfect condition, threaded holes are un-messed-with. I'll check for burrs, crud, etc. but I removed the rear sight, put the screws back in the holes, and found the screws were also off center by .015". So, it's the threaded holes themselves, not the rear sight. ...

Re: Sight Offset Question
OK, I found the index marks right where you said. They were hard to see because the barrel/receiver had been re-blued. The marks are perfectly lined up. So I guess the rear sight being a little to one side was within tolerance.

But I think whoever cut the dovetail for the front sight didn...

Re: Sight Offset Question
After doing more measureing it looks like my dovetailed front sight is leaning too far to the right so the front and rear sights look skewed from each other and the windage is off.

I can't redo the dovetail so I'm going to replace the front sight with a band type so I can get everything l...

Re: Sight Offset Question
The right side of the notch for the extractor in the receiver lines up exactly with the right side of the notch in the barrel. But the left side of the notch in the receiver is slightly to the right of the left side of the notch in the barrel. I can feel the "step" when I use a bent paper ...

Sight Offset Question
I have a sporterized 1898 Krag. The barrel is now 24" long and the front sight is dovetailed in. The front sight appears to be the regular military base and blade. The front sight is directly at the 12 o'clock position (within a few thousandths) as measured using a square and calipers and using...

Re: Gap at Rear Barrel Band
Thanks for the helpful advice. Before trying a shim at the rear trigger guard screw I rocked the receiver/barrel back and forth in the stock to see where the high point was. It seemed to be about the middle of the magazine. There was some caked-on crud that I scraped off and that improved the fit. I...

Gap at Rear Barrel Band
A while back I posted about getting a military stock for my sporterized '98 Krag. This stock was cut off just forward of the rear barrel band leaving just enough wood for a steel pin to keep the barrel band from sliding out of position.

Here's my question, after I've tightened the two tri...

Re: Butt Plate Interchangability
Thanks for the replies! At this time DeChristopher lists an M1894 butt plate with no trap and a "butt plate with trap" but no date given. Is the M1894 curved? Am I just better off getting the "butt plate with trap"?

I'm still very new to Krags and already can tell that...

Butt Plate Interchangability
Hi all. I'm about to purchase a cut down military stock for my 1898 Krag which has been irreversibly sporterized. The stock is for an 1898 and I can buy an 1892 butt plate. Will it fit? The '92 butt plate doesn't have a trapdoor but that doesn't matter to me.
Thanks,
Tom
