Re: 1903 front sight on Krag
On my front sight I drilled and tapped a hole in the underside of the barrel because the front sight base band material is too thin. There's a match-drilled hole in the band that is a close fit on the set screw. So, basically, the set screw is a post attached to the barrel that the band is im...

Re: 1903 front sight on Krag
That's the spirit! I used JB Weld for added security after installing my set screw.

Re: 1903 front sight on Krag
Battis, I looked at the picture of that 1903A1 sight assembly. If you slip it onto your barrel and try to look through the hole in the base, doesn't a bit of the barrel get in the way? If so, if you had the right sized pin (Numrich 517450?) and filed a shallow groove across the barrel, that would ho...

Re: 1903 front sight on Krag
Battis, I used a 1903A3 sight on my Krag. I used a short set screw to hold it firmly in place. Did you get a 1903A3 front sight or a 1903 front sight base?
The 1903 front sight base has a horizontal hole through it. If that base is put on the rifle and you carefully run a drill through that hol...

Re: Krag beats the Enfield.
On the SMLEs and No4 Mk1 I own, the magazines are numbered to the rifle. Someone can correct me, but reloading was done through stripper clips only, not by inserting a fresh loaded magazine.

Forgot to say, "Welcome!" We'd love to see pictures of your Krag, regardless of its headspace.

Re: Krag 1898 Head Space Problem
I'm sure that you'll get more answers soon but I just wanted to make sure, you said the gunsmith who told you the headspace was too big also offered to correct the problem for a few hundred dollars? Hmmm. I assume he meant setting the barrel back one thread and recutting the chamber. I might be naiv...

Re: Krag Sight adjust
Hi, John, and welcome!
I bought a sporter that had the '96 rear sight. It wasn't adjustable for windage so I bought a 1902 sight to replace it. You might know that the mounting hole spacing is the same for all the rear sights though the handguards are different. Is your new Krag a sporterized r...

Re: Bob's feed problem
Bob, here are a couple pics of what my follower looks like after the last round has fed. Does your follower look like mine, especially how far it has moved to the left side of the rifle?

<IMG sr...

Re: Bob's feed problem
Bob, I've been following this thread and decided to take a closer look at one of my '98 Krag sporters to see how it feeds. I laid my rifle on its left side and opened the magazine door. I inserted 4 cartridges and put just a bit of finger pressure on the last catridge while cycling the bolt. They al...
