Re: What happened?
My first thought was that it was a rifle that had been de-activated by drilling a hole in the chamber and then jamming a rod into the hole, so that a cartridge could not be chambered. Some guy took out the rod. Passed the rifle on to an unsuspecting customer. Another thought was that the rifle had b...

Try a group with your front rest on the barrel, about 6" back from the muzzle.
Yep, you have to cock a Uberti manually. Lawyer-ed up, probably a wise move in today's legal environment.

What happened?
This AM, I was on a cartridge collector site and a new guy posted this photo. Wrote that the cases were new production Winchester, factory loads. Supposed to be from an ordinary Krag military rifle. No photo of rifle. Something looks strange. What happened?

Re: New single shot 30-40 Krag
I've had one in 30-40 for a few years. Mine came with a crescent butt plate that really hurt when fired with full power loads. I fitted a butt stock from an original Winder Musket. Much better. Decent groups at 100 yards. Shot mine in long range gong matches. Got hits at 1040 yards, none at 1580. Mi...
Re: Inflation
In a discussion on the ASSRA site about .22 Shorts and whether they were still made in our COVIDed world, we learned that the mail-order price for one of the 100-round boxes of CCI Target Shorts went from $9 in 2019 to $60 a few days ago. It's really hard to find the voters who never existed. But th...

Re: I bet I can make you cry!
BR: The CCI Longs are loaded to .22 Short pressures, +/-. The Long Rifle cartridges you tried were hotter loads. That's why they split. Read in Brophy's book about the GPR and look at the cutaway drawing. IIRC, he wrote that barrel diameter and chamber dimensions were changed later in the production...

Re: I bet I can make you cry!
Back about 2008/09, I had use of an early GPR that had been made into a really nice 4-position target rifle by some skilled gunsmith who never slugged the bore. The barrels were .226 groove diameter with an 18" twist and they were chambered for the .22 Extra Long rimfire cartridge. I learned ab...

Re: Check and Double Check .30 Remington
I was in high school when I bought a Standard, although in .35 Remington. I never could get the thing to fire. Only once in a great while did I ever get the action to come open. Once, when the action was working, I loaded it with 3 live cartridges. I thought I'd better not shoot the thing. Unloading...

Both are very interesting. I've quit acquiring, just too old, but I'd make an exception for either of those.

Re: U.S. Springfield magazine rifle proto-type .30-0x
I'd need a lot more info on Lt. Whelen's carbine before I bid on it. No photo of markings on receiver ring. No SN. No provenance. For that price, I expect all of that.
