Re: My Other Krag!

psteinmayer: You may be able to salvage the original sight holes on your Krag barrel. Normaly these were simply filled with sight screws that were cut off and the shanks filed to the barrel contour. I have removed these from four or five Krag barrels by locating the shank, center-punching it, drilli...

Re: My Other Krag!

psteinmayer: The aftermarket rear sight on your sporterized Krag appears to be a Redfield No. 102-k, which was made from about 1930 to 1964. It looks like someone put extra tapped holes in the top (for some purpose?). The sight base is held on by an extra long side-plate screw (supplied by Redfield ...

Re: more pics of looking for serial number

Wow, Mark: Seeing how faint the "U.S." and "Armory" letters are on your 1894 Krag receiver makes it believable that the Serial # got belt-sanded off. The 1894 date should remove any worry about the lack of a serial number (pre-1898). Enjoy shooting and hunting with your Krags.

Re: more pics of looking for serial number

kaziboku: Your Krags definitely appear to be cut-down rifles. Since the originality is gone, it makes them great "guilt-free" shooters. None of your posted pictures show a clear view of the receiver markings, so it is hard to give feedback or information. I have never encountered a U.S. Kr...

Re: mounting a "scope on my Mod. 1898 Krag.

Andy: I quickly checked Poyer's book "The American Krag Rifle and Carbine". Serial # 55897 was probably made in February 1897. Your 1896 Krag Rifle likely saw use in the Spanish American War. To drill holes in its receiver would ruin an interesting and apparently original rifle (30" b...

Re: mounting a "scope on my Mod. 1898 Krag.

Andy: What are other specifics of your 1898 Krag? (barrel length, front sight, state of stock, refinished, sporterized?). Lots of Krags have been rendered into the "Shooter" catagory long ago by sporterizing and refinishing. It's just a shame nowadays to have anything collectable ruined. W...

Re: Older sporters with a line of 4 or 5 tap holes

Alcmaeon: I believe the multiple (4 & 5) holes on some sporterized Krag receivers was done to mount Williams and Weaver (side-plate with detachable mount) off-set scope mounts. The odd number holes was probably due to a mistake or earlier holes for a peep-sight. I think it has to be a matter of ...

Re: Reloading System Recommendations?

When you have a Full Length Re-Sizing Die screwed all the way into the press so it makes contact with the shell holder, the die full-length re-sizes the case. This means it returns it to factory dimensions. If you are reloading ammunition with cartridge cases that were fired in your rifle, the brass...
