Re: Norweigian Krag ID help!
Congratulations on your new rifle. I'll try and answer your question about shooting modern commercial ammunition in your Krag. I own and shoot Norwegian Krag rifles and Swedish Mauser Rifles all in 6.5X55 MM. And have dug very deep into the subject. There is a mountain of information, misinformation...

Harder Cast Bullets
I have been shooting cast bullets in Krags for years but all I ever had was scrap wheel weighs which are soft. About 8BHN with a Lee tester. Recently was able to purchase a good quantity of clean salvaged Linotype metal. The Lyman books have a recipe to mix Wheel Weight with Linotype and alloy harde...

More Am Legion Rifles
An earlier post discussed markings on Krag rifles at an American Legion post. I'll offer a little more related information. Some Krag rifles do remain in the possession of veterans organizations. These Krag rifles and later 1903 types and M1 Garand's were loaned too organizations for parade and buri...

He went on his way with out much more said. Same show a year later. Same place. Up walks a guy that se...

The Famous Krag Cast Bullet
While looking through some 1906 Shooting and Fishing magazines I saw this ad for the Ideal cast bullet.
We have discussed it before but I thought you fellows would want to print it and tack it above your reloading bench.
600 yards ....no problem.

Handguard Modification
When great Uncle Bob made a deer rifle out of his old Krag, if he removed the rear sight he often discarded the handguard. But better gunsmiths that worked more toward finer custom rifle work often added a few more refinements. This is an interesting modification to keep the standard Krag handguard ...

Re: Neat Lyman Sights
Here is a better photograph of a Lyman No. 2A cocking piece sight that shows the dovetail mounting the sight to the cocking piece.
This one is on an 03 Springfield cocking piece, but same on the Krag.

Re: Neat Lyman Sights
You caused me to dig out the Krag sporting models. I hope we can all shoot some targets over the winter with different rear sights. The cocking piece rear sights are an interesting design. Lyman designed the sights for the Model 1899 Savage Lever Action as a tang mount. Then later added the dove tai...
