Re: Rear sights for Krag Short Rifle
Not very astonishing to me but what is intriguing is what period of time would faking of these parts have become popular?
I'll speculate the rifle has been together for some time just judging by its appearance. When the wood was cut down the exposed stock lightening channel was filled with wha...

Re: Rear sights for Krag Short Rifle
Not the best pictures but the suspect "C" can be seen. Also, where the grip had been added on, two types of finishes can be detected. Hard to tell but the script "p" has been struck in a slightly lower position than my other rifles to offset where the grip was added on.
I al...

Re: Rear sights for Krag Short Rifle
I have been shooting a shortened rifle with a 23.5" barrel. The remaining fore stock and accompanying parts have been moved back so that when viewed from the front they are apparently equidistant an uncut rifle.

The rifle is wearing a 1902 rear sight, a m1903 band with an uncrowned m...

Re: Questionable front sight
The width of the slot for the site blade was slightly wider on a replacement base I used.
Maybe it was just the one I had received but I had to form my own blade.

It also had a more robust exterior dimension in the radius at the front and rear of the post and was slightly wider.<br /...

Re: CBI Barrel Fitting
I have used that method before by using sectioned DP barrels. Mostly 03 and A3 projects. I also use razor blades broken hack saw blades formed into scrapers and a barrel bedding tool around the reinforce area when alot needs to be removed at one time.
I also find a section of barrel especially ...

Re: CBI Barrel Fitting
Turned out pretty good. I got this with the first five shots@100 yds using a rest from the hood of my truck and the ladder/peep sight with 180 rem ammo.https://imgur.com/a/5szik

Re: Chrome/Nickle stripping question

Chrome/Nickle stripping question
I stripped chrome/nickle finish from a project rifle with room temp stripper.
What remains is the copper wash from the plating process.
Does anyone have suggestions for removing the copper wash that remains?
Thanks

Re: CBI Barrel Fitting
Got it. When I fire my rifle the shoulder of the brass moves forward .003. My bolt will just close on a .064 gauge. When I put an aluminum shim .004 on top of it, it will not. One other thing, just like was written, the chamber was radially smaller than what would be expected. You must make sure tha...

Re: CBI Barrel Fitting
With my calipers I can read read .459 but its hard to measure like that consistently. Cartridge will drop right out but it hasn't been fired yet.
I know reamers are not always golden especially if they have been passed around a little bit or mistreated and have read of newly manufactured ones g...
