Re: New to Krag Jorgensen world with 1896
for clarification on my part, the sling barrel band is on backwards, U should be on other side. The plum color is an aftermarket finish of some type, the bolts were always left in the white I believe. The bayonet turn down I referred to is at the muzzle of the barrel and if original somewhat rare an...

Re: New to Krag Jorgensen world with 1896
It kinda looks like the reciever and bolt have had a treatment of Belgian brown type bluing (popular in the '50's) done to them. If the barrel length is 22" and the turned down portion at the muzzle is sized to fit a Krag bayonet then it could possibly be a '96 schools rifle modification? The b...

Re: Is this a special model of 1898 KRAG rifle?
Appears to me like a Bannerman/Stokes or DCM cut down. The "special" Krag you speak of is commonly called the Schools rifle and was in fact an original length carbine with an altered rifle stock. Additionally, the end of the muzzle was turned down to accommodate a Krag bayonet. The incorre...

Re: I Have a 1901 Krag
Belongs in a museum, IMO, very nice example and unbelievably clean furniture and metal. Maybe not the most valuable model, but certainly the top end value of that particular model. They just don't get much nicer, enjoy!

Re: Forend from S&S Firearms
Have used the 1901 rifle handguard from S&S, fit is good (cut out dimensions), final outer dimensions need small amount of shaping. You will need to be able to acquire or reuse handguard barrel clips and rivet them in. Color/finish match could be the biggest chore, just start light and build to ...

Re: Ceremonial Krags
Not real sure why firing a ceremonial rifle would be of concern, since by definition it is and was created for ceremonial purposes. Fire blanks, hang on wall or march in parades as intended, maybe doing these things will put you in contact with someone who knows of a true shooter that can be purchas...

Re: 1894 30-40 Krag no. 2-pics wood imprint ?
From the previous picture post you have a damaged magazine cut-off and a incorrect '96 rear sight. The correct and serviceable cut-off should look like the one posted above, not like the shaft only one you have depicted in IMG 0015 and 9952 of the previous post. Additionally, your rear sight does no...

Re: Reproduction carbine stocks
I have an extra '96 carbine stock that it is semi-inletted. It came from American stocks about 15 yrs ago. Have used a couple of them and they work up nicely, provided final fit and finish is within ones ability. Nice walnut, in character with Krag production wood. Only draw back I've noticed is tha...

Re: My wannabe Constabulary Krag
Is there a cartouche on the stock? The stock could be a "schools rifle" original from the look of the work. The barrel however is definitely an after the fact modification. An actual 22" turned down barrel is finished and crowned much much nicer. The extra length will preclude bayonet...
