Re: 220 gr RN Sierra vs. Hornady
In 1989 I worked for a small operation making bullets for big bore African type rifles. We also stocked the Hornady FMJ 220s for loading in .30 cal rifles for customers headed for Africa. There was a lot of police & gov't interest in our custom loads, esp with .30 bullets. Nobody cared if we loa...

Re: 220 gr RN Sierra vs. Hornady
I suspect that the reason the Hornady FMJ 220 disappeared is that it would behave just like the original Krag bullets when shot at modern body armor. I don't think they bounce off. Even if they stop, the wearer is delivered a hard blow.

Re: A piece of family history
I think it absolutely marvelous that the family has been able to keep their own history as well as the old Colt. Too much of the real America perishes each day.

Re: Cast bullet question
Have you checked Rotometals to see if they will make up an alloy for you?
And have you guys tried an old Belding & Mull powder measure? Nearly Kragish in vintage and way better than most of the newer stuff.

Re: AO Niedner barreled 1885 Winchester Takedown
That is a coil spring Low Wall with a single set trigger. And a Niedner barrel. Be still my heart! And the takedown feature (only works with the coil spring action) is rather rare.

The single set trigger works by pushing forward on the trigger (from the back, of course) until you feel a c...

It will be less boggling if I say that I live in California.

Re: Black Powder Questions
I took my Charleville to a Boy Scout campout, explained things like "lock, stock & barrel" and "flash in the pan". Then I let them load it & shoot it, with very close, one on one supervision.

We shot it at a Redcoat painted on a refrigerator carton. The first ...

Re: More Non-Krag ammo questions
Well, back in 1937, Sharpe wrote about using .32 caliber pistol bullets in the Krag & '06. There is no reason why the Carbine bullets would not work for you.

GI Carbine ammo was loaded with non-corrosive primers from the very start, so no worries there. The GI ammo was supposed to be...

Martha continued:

The bear died at her feet, just as her guards showed up. Time elapsed was about 12 seconds.

The editors hashed up my story, but it is in CLOG Volume 15, on p. 78.

Martha lost her Krag when she was captured by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolu...
CLOG
There is a strange publication called CLOG published by some artsy types in NYC. CLOG has put out 15 issues or volumes, one or two a year. They explore different viewpoints around a single subject. Volume 15 is about guns. The volumes are called CLOG because the intent is to slow things down.
<...
