Re: Reloader 19 in 30-40 Rifle

IIRC, the original FA loads with 220 grain bullets didn't go much faster than 2,000 fps. A 225 grain bullet at the same velocity ought to generate a smidge more pressure. Re19 doesn't look to be very much different than either of the 4350s. I'd try the 38.0 grain load first. If you have a sight sett...

Re: From IAA site

I would imagine that the sub-caliber devices were only used as single shots. Spotting hits between shots would have been a primary part of training pointers & trainers. I had a 96 made into a sporter by Bannerman at the time. Still do. I was afraid to use any of that sub-caliber ammo. It was pro...

Re: From IAA site

Long ago when I was waterman, I posted that in Dec. 1961, I was a young sailor assigned to inventory small arms ammunition at Lualualei Naval Ammunition Depot. I was surprised to find .30-40 Krag ammo (commercial Winchester cases) loaded with what appeared to be M-1 or maybe M-2 bullets for the .30-...

Re: Slender wristed updated Krag

Thanks for posting that. GB was one of my high school English teachers and I have good memories of him. He got me started cartridge collecting. Krags came later. I don't specifically remember Krags from his collection, mostly displayed horizontally on the walls of his den. I remember 4 Burnsides, of...

It ain't politically correct to thin the herd. 8 billion people on earth, 350 million here. Just a great big laboratory experiment.

1895 Winchester Lee

Back in the last quarter of the last century, I had some experience with a Lee Navy sporter in pretty grimy condition. I'd never before handled a Lee Navy & this one had a steep learning curve. It had apparently spent 40+ years behind the seat of a Model A (or earlier) ranch pickup & was enc...

Re: A takedown Norwegian

I missed this earlier. Never saw a Scandinavian take-down rifle before. Take-downs in general fascinate me. I view them as a by-product of industrialization. Here's my US-based spin: Men came from the countryside to work in factories in urban areas. At some point, factory management realized that wo...
