Re: Teddy Roosevelt's Krag?

In AFRICAN GAME TRAILS his colorful and descriptive account of the 1909-10 safari to E. Africa he mentioned using an 1895 in 405 Win, the 1903 which he refers to frequently as the little 30, a 500-450 Holland & Holland double and a Fox 12ga side by side. The H&H was gifted to him while presi...

Re: The Well Dressed Krag Target Shooter

This from the pdf referenced by KC:

Interesting their ad says good to 600yds. According to "The Smokeless Powders of Laflin & Rand and Their Fate 100 Years After Assimilation by Dupont" by Klaus Neuschaefer 2007, Marksmen was introduced in 1904 as a reduced load "galler...

Re: Question on powder

I stopped at Shooters Outpost in Hookset NH yesterday which is a large firearms only shop with a fairly extensive reloading dept and at first glance it didn't look like there is a run on reloading supplies. But they were out of a couple of the more popular powders - Bullseye and Unique and there was...

Re: Win 94 Rebounding Hammer Fix

Fred,
Both the forward and rebound action are controlled by the same spring. Actually, some trying to lighten trigger pull have replaced the single mainspring with a lighter one which then created a misfire situation where there wasn't one. Apparently most rifles have the correct tolerence bal...

Re: Win 94 Rebounding Hammer Fix

The most difficult part of the exercise is getting the mainspring back on the strut. Someone may know a trick for this but I eventually had to place two 1/4 inch thick aluminum plates in a vise and use my gut to push the strut between the plates enough to allow a nail to be inserted into the spring ...

Re: Win 94 Rebounding Hammer Fix

And I didn't want to alter the crossbolt safety as it reliably serves the intended purpose. I wanted to leave the rifle as is except eliminate the misfire problem, if possible.

There were many references to an older Rifle Magazine article by Dave Scovill where he details a procedure to co...

Win 94 Rebounding Hammer Fix

Back in 1998 I bought a new Win 94 AE Big Bore carbine for the 356 Win cartridge. The 356 is the same case as the 358 Win except with a rim and a shorter loaded OAL to function in the M94. It is loaded to the same pressure level as the 358 which gives considerable more firepower than the 30-30 class...

Re: new krag checkering

Nice job! That's a lot of checkering for one stock. Did you plan it all out before starting or as you went along?

Oh, and do you do fish scales, birds and cats?

Re: Serial# 407052

<r>Finally took it to the range. First shots for me with a full size Krag and first for the rifle in a very long time. Tried the Hornady 220gr RN with 40.0gr of both 4350 and H4350 at 50yds. Initial shot guessing on the sight height with 4350 didn't hit the target. Next four were awkward and then se...
