Re: Just Saying hey
The Krag made into a useful "Hunting Rifle" is a legitimate part of U.S. Firearms History. Some were done in a handsome professional manner. Some are interesting Folk Art. Some are ugly as sin and need to be salvaged for useful parts. It is too bad that desireable Krags are still getting s...

Re: Reloading System Recommendations?
The basic Lee Turret Press with the 'quick-change' turrets is the press I use the most. (I also have a strong RCBS single station press). I have various makes of Dies and they all work well with the Lee Press. I own a bunch of the 3-position turrets and once I have set-up for a caliber, I leave it a...

Re: Help with attaching gate 1898 Rifle
Dave: Well done you! I am glad you were able to solve your magazine-door riddle. The more I play with my Krag rifles and carbines the more I appreciate the cleverness of the designers and the quality of manufacture.

Re: Help with attaching gate 1898 Rifle
Dave: A bent hinge pin just makes takedown and reassembly of the Krag magazine door more difficult. It can be easily straightened. It is more likely your jammed magazine door is a problem with the magazine spring (either broken or the front tip out of position). There is an easy check.<br /> With yo...

Re: Krag at the range
Sounds like a good day at the range! I'm sure you meant 18.0 grains (not 180) of IMR4759. Any problems with leading?

Re: Help with attaching gate 1898 Rifle
Dave: As you reassemble the Krag magazine-door, the flat spring just lies in its slot the curve projecting outward. The notched end lies loosely on top of the carrier parts (not tucked behind anything).

Re: Help with attaching gate 1898 Rifle
Dave: I may have made inserting the Krag magazine-door hinge pin sound too easy. It does involve a fair degree of grip strength. I pulled one of my Krags apart today just for practice. It is important that the hinge pin is straight. Also test that every thing lines up by partially assembling with ou...

Re: Help with attaching gate 1898 Rifle
Kavorka: Is it possible you have reversed the bowed flat spring? It should only bear on the door (hinge pin cavity) at the spring's center curve. Also, there is a notch in one end of the spring that is to clear action parts. The radiused end of the spring goes to the rear and the notched end goes fo...

Matt: The Danish Krags were chambered for a cartridge now called 8x58RD (rimmed Danish). This 8mm cartridge was loaded by Norma at one time. It may be a custom reloading proposition now.
