Re: Sportered, German marked. Any insight to model?
I'm talking about US Krags, using the KragHaus mount, I don't think the Norwegian barrels are tapered the same. I found the inexpensive LER scopes on ebay to work better than what one might think, and they've gotten better since the ones I purchased long ago. Eye relief is about right on them, the o...

Re: A Possible Future Range Experiment
I have a bolt with a Rice peep that I sometimes used back when I could still see a front sight! I shot quit a bit with it before I scoped that 92/96 sporter. I keep it around in case something goes wrong with the scope. I think I have a new Rice somewhere too. A possible future range experiment for ...

Re: Any Source of 180gr and Up .307 Diameter Jacketed Bullets?
As mentioned bullets for the 30-30 tend to be smallish, .307. I just pulled a bunch of 170grRN out of some old 30 Remington cases and they were all .307". The samples came from several different years of production. Also, PRVI makes a very tapered 168gr match bullet. It doesn't get up to .308 u...

Re: Camp Perry 2022
I won't be there. The only rifle I can still hold up through standing is the AR. I have the Garand shooting less that 1moa, but I skipped the state championship match last weekend cause I know I'd be beyond done if I managed to hold the 13lb bugger up through the 20 standing shots. The standing posi...

Re: First Time Krag Shooter
I went out shooting again today and at 300 yards I had to hold about 2 feet under on the 100 yard setting. Surely something is out of wack. From the front of the wood there is gap under the barrel, but the barrel is supported on the sides. Really not sure where to start with this one. Other than a ...

"Dumbass powder companies". I been trying for years to get Austin Powder to start up a nitrocellulose production line at their nearby industrial explosives plant. We have lots of sawdust, that's about the only natural resource left in the area.

Re: Best Bullet for Match Shooting (Not a 30-40 Question)
Barrel twist rate is a big factor to consider when deciding what bullet weight. Too fast a twist and some bullets start coming apart before they get to the target. Too slow a twist and the bullets don't stabilize, nothing like hitting the target next to the one you're shooting at, w/o it being a cro...

Re: Shooting at Camp Perry 2020
To early for me to say. I'm thinking of trying to shoot the ORPA state championship match Jun 25th. It's an 80rd match on the Kongsburg targets. I don't know if I can hold my 13lb Garand up through a 80rd match! The entry fee is about the same as CMP, so I get more bang for my buck! Wonder if they l...
