Always nice to see a new off the shelf baby. Give the mom a big hug from the Guys here at the KCA. Congratulations, Grandpa.
Now about that rifle. Ya have to do something. Any thing. It's blocking my view of all that ammo.

Re: Winchester-Western
How long has it been since Winchester-Western has offered 30-40 Krag ammo?? Out in my shop I found a peanut butter jar with 5 rounds of W-W in it, I thought I have never shot my Krag but I must have. I cant find the empty's. That jar was also full of some .223, .357mag, .22mag, .45Colt, it was my c...

Lack of interest? The guys fishing has got to be one greatest photos of all time.
Jokes about poor roads, old guys having fun, and catching fish. All in one. The perfect storm of humor
Just because no one posted does not mean there was no interest. I went back to it about five times for a laugh.

I know exactly what torment you go through. I had a eighty tiny rein deer on my roof this past Christmas eve.

Cast bullets in the Krag
What cast bullets are you guys running in your .30 cal rifles? I'm still sitting on a few hundred pounds of linotype and figure I need to do something with it this year. I am looking for a bullet that can be used across multiple platforms and not just the Krag.

Re: Serial number???
Not at all likely. The production run was four hundred and eighty thousand or there abouts. It would be seven hundred seventy-nine thousand if there was a hidden digit (77961x)

Re: Serial number???
Culpeper, I am having trouble deciding if you are telling me this is indeed a genuine 1896 carbine or that it is not. I added the only other photos I have. The seller is not being much help to me. I am not sure if he is being straight or not. Dave What you are seeing is the 1890s equivalent of the ...

Re: Serial number???
That is for you to decide. All evidence points to 1896 Carbine but with the upgrades like BR mentioned. The only thing you can be certain of the barrel is 22 inches and the receiver is a known 1896 Carbine receiver per Mr. Mallory. After that you know the stock is a carbine stock but not a "sad...

Re: Serial number???
From Mr. Mallory's The Krag Rifle Story. 2nd Edition. Remember this is a snapshot in time. 77961 96c 04 11 1901 Troop I 5th Cav (Turned In) A close up picture of the Model 1896 will show the 8 and forth digit are way different. They may look the same but that is because of the stamp and how heavy it...
