Re: Observations
Well Tom it is obviously hard to tell a lot from pictures but here is what strikes me.
The bolt has obviously had some work done, the bolt sleeve and safty are up dated and the finnish on the cocking piece doe not match the wear on the rest of the rifle, which over all does seem to be even. The t...

Re: Norwegian Ammo Solution ???
I have been using US factory loads in my Norwegians for a number of years with out incident. I have been told that Norma's factory loads are hotter and shouldn't be used. If you have doubts reloading is the answer. Nord has posted some below max loads here. Do not mess with the heat treating of the ...

Re: Scope Mounts for 98
We bought an S&K for our father at least ten years ago and it has served well with no problems at all. The off set takes a little getting used to. His front sight is an aftermarket ramp and didn't need to be removed.
Good luck and happy shooting,
Ned

Re: Questions about 1898 Krag
Hi Jim,
Carbine barrels are 22" long and rifle barrels are 30" long. The figures I have show no carbines made in 1903. My figures arn't Gospel but any carbine made that late in production would have been a M99 and would be stamped Model 1899 on the reciever. What you have is a slick wor...

Re: 1898 Krag US Army Ceremonial Parade Rifle
Well that is a pretty set up, all shiny like that, and with the cases. Was the hand guard included?
I would think that it will be hard to confirme the sellers claims, as many VFW and American Legion Posts and marching units of the time seem to have chromed some Krags for color guards and such. Mo...

Re: I have another Krag :-)
Hi Mike,
It sounds like you got a good shooter.
I would say that the the BA would indicate that your "carbine" or at least it's stock was overhauled or worked on in some way at Benicia Arsenal in CA at some point. Maybe some one here will jump in with more specific info.
Malory ta...

Re: 6.5X55 Krag
I have been shooting Norwegian Krags for a couple of years now with standard factory loads with no problem. I would under no circumstances fire any thing that is advertised as "hot or plus" loads. Look back in the past posts, Nord our Norwegian connection posted some of his loads a while b...

Hi Mike,
That sounds like a fun shooter in good shape. I would say that $200-300 US is a fair price range. I hope you get it.
Happy shooting,
Ned

Re: Krag Cartridge Ejection
Your ejector may be worn or bent. I would try repalcing it and see if that helps. Gun Parts Corp. lists them for $17.70 (e-GunParts.com) they also turn up on the auction sites from time to time.
Good Luck,
Ned

Re: NRA Krag
So many Krags were sporterized over the years to the NRA/DCM configuration that it is impossable to tell with out paper work. It is my understanding that the DCM records from that era are in such dissaray that it is virtually impossable to verify the guns. About all you can do is enjoy it for what i...
