Re: IMR 4198
This is an addendum to my post above of 9/18/23 regarding my recent experience with IMR 4198 Powder beneath 180 gr Hornady RN and Spitzer bullets. Today, in a 25 year old Lee reloading manual, I found a .30-40 Krag reloading recipe using IMR 4198 powder and 180 gr. jacketed bullets. 'Never exceed' 2...

Re: The State of Krag Forums Address
i agree with Whig. Since acquiring my model 1899 Krag carbine in 2019, nearly all the knowledge I have learned about ammo, reloading, shooting, and caring for my rifle has come from this Forum.

Re: A better range trip
King Carp, I agree, lighter is also better in my Krag. I am getter better groups with Hornady 180 gr. Spitzer & RN Interlock bullets than with Hornady 220 gr. RN bullets. A 170 -180 bullet at velocities over 2,000 fps is adequate for most North American large game animals except Grizzley and Pol...

IMR 4198
I acquired my model 1899 .30-40 Krag carbine 4 years ago, and using several reloading manuals, powders, and bullets I have not been able to find a recipe that delivers consistent reliable groups at 75 yards. I have not taken my Krag whitetail hunting because I want to fire one-shot, humane kills, an...

Re: Decent into Madness - Lack of Case Trimming
Paul Steinmayer & Butlersrangers, A belated "Thank You" to you both for your responses to my 8/23/2023 post on the the need for neck sizing and case trimming when reloading .30-40 Krag brass. Based on both your comments, I will begin neck sizing my .30-40 reloads. This probably is a du...

Re: Decent into Madness - Lack of Case Trimming
Hello Paul, I have a couple of questions pertaining to your 2 posts on this string: First, in regard to .30-06 reloading, I, too, f/l resize, trim, and chamfour, each case every time I reload it. I used to neck size reloads for my four bolt action .30-06 rifles, but I found that neck sizing did not ...

CCI Large Rifle BR-2 Primers
Yesterday afternoon I called my local Cabela's to see if they had any Large Rifle and Large Pistol Primers in stock. For the last two years i have called that store every other week with the same question, and the answer was always "NO". During yesterday's phone call the answer was "Y...

Re: Cole bullets
Waterman, For the Krag cartridges, why not simply use a milder load than what the reloading manuals call for, which ought to protect against bolt lug cracking. As for the for the Remington WW2 '03, all I can say is 'be careful'. The 220gr bullets was never intended for that rifle even thought it has...

Re: 30-40 brass
Yes, I just noted that as I was surfing for Large Rifle primers; it may be manufactured by Privi over in the Balkans.
