Re: Great Danes
Nice photo. My Mother's side of the family all originated in Denmark. Could be some of my ancestors in that photo.

Saw a Krag in a movie
<r>It was too cold here tonight to do much but stay inside and keep the fire going, so I dug out an old VHS copy of the movie "Death Hunt". While watching it, I noticed that the character played by Lee Marvin was using a Krag rifle. Looked like a sporterized 1896 model to me. Anyway, here ...

Re: Anything strange about this extractor?
<r><blockquote>What year is your Krag? Looks like is has a carbine stock on it.</blockquote><br /><br />It's an 1896. I think it's a cut down rifle stock. The band is farther forward than the carbine bands, and there are no band retaining springs on it.<br /><IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociati...

Re: Anything strange about this extractor?
<r><blockquote>Is your Krag sporterized? I imagine it was done to clean a receiver sight or scope... or some other reason where clearance over the extractor was an issue. <br /><br />Anyone else have any ideas?</blockquote><br /><br />Yes it is sporterized. No receiver sight though. Bubba must have ...

Anything strange about this extractor?
<r>After looking at some other Krag extractors, I noticed that mine has a notch filed or machined into the hump on the top. Not sure what the correct nomenclature is for the hump or the pin in it. What could the purpose be for the notch?<br /><br />Thanks<IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.o...

Re: New member with 1896 Krag
<r>Got some range time in today. I guess I lucked out getting the sight on, as the windage was right on. I started by removing the bolt and boresighting the rifle on to the target. I checked the sights and they were aimed below the target. I raised the elevation slide on the rear sight until the sig...

Re: New member with 1896 Krag
<r><blockquote>Just to make it clear as mud, the 1903 sight can be attached by cutting a groove in the barrel for the cross pin. The 1903A3 sight I used is supposed to have a separate key in a slot milled in the barrel. But I held mine on with a set screw. So your method of attachment will depend on...

Re: New member with 1896 Krag
Thanks to Gunboat57 and Butlersrangers for the excellent information on 03 front sights. I have saved it for future reference. The 23" barrel on my Krag measures .649 at the muzzle, .654 at 1" from the muzzle, and .659 at 2'' from the muzzle. I should be able to open up the I.D. on an 03 b...
