Re: Y'all were right...these things do multiply - 1896

The flat surface of the underside of the bolt handle extends farther on the 1898 bolt than the 1896, as I understand. Reference: http://www.5madfarmers.com/tankpaper/mook.pdf

Im posting from my phone, so bear with me if this photo is monstrous size. 1896 on the bottom, 1898 on top:
<...

Re: Y'all were right...these things do multiply - 1896

What I think I know:

1896 rear sight.

1896 stock; no cartouche on the wrist; looks like an old arsenal overhaul with a re-stamped proof.

1896 bolt, I'm pretty sure, when compared to my 1898.

Bore doesn't seem badly pitted, but it swallowed my gauge to 4+; ...

Y'all were right...these things do multiply - 1896

I was warned, and indeed my second Krag arrived today, this time shipped straight to my doorstep as an antique. Yep, it was another Gunbroker...find? Impulse buy? Burn? https://www.gunbroker.com/item/832538865

Well, you be the judge!...

Re: Sight I.D.

Reproduction sight is more expensive than an original. That's crazy!

In fact the same goes for the entire rifle. For the price of the Pedersoli you can get a very nice original example, assuming of course you arent talking about something like a Custer era carbine...

Re: Sight I.D.

I believe at one point at least Pedersoli was reproducing them:

https://www.davide-pedersoli.com/scheda-accessorio.a...

Re: Sight I.D.

I believe that is an 1879 Buckhorn rear sight for an 1873 Trapdoor rifle (note the "R" marking). Compare:

More info with some pricing comparison he...

Re: My New Krag Rifle Questions

I have seen that eagle's head, and variations of it, on many pistols before like in Butler's post. Never seen it on a Krag. Interesting. Re: New member...new Krag

Awesome info, especially the rear sight - that had me a bit confused. Didn't look like the pictures of the 1902 sights I'd seen, but didn't look exactly like the 1898s either.

Glad to hear the opinion about value - I found this one online, and with shipping and transfer fees I'm into it f...

New member...new Krag

Greetings all! I came across this forum researching a recent purchase (always dangerous, researching *after* the purchase!) and wanted to see if ya'll had any thoughts or info on my 'new' (only 120 years old!) rifle:
