It sounds like you have a sporterized rifle. Worth around $150-$300 depending on what original parts are still there.
A more through description with some measurements, the serial number and some pictures would go a long way to a more accurate description and value!

Re: Krag handguard
The screw holes for Krag rear sight are all spaced the same and in the same location on all Krags, but the sight dimentions vary. The '01 has more metal in front of the front screw so the matching hand guard will have a bit less wood in the front section. Those '03 parts should interchange.

Re: new 6.5x55 krag owner
If in original configuration Please do not sporterize it!!!
Far too many Norwegian Krags are already sporterized and can be had from time to time on the auction sites.

Dick, those are part of Tom's sporter collection. If he doesn't check in soon I'll let him know you want the serial number.

Stock Wanted
I am looking for a decent (but NOT "mint") Krag stock which has been bubba'd ahead of the band. MUST have a nice clear [JSA/1902] cartouche with considerable impression remaining - one sanded/worn down to a flat "one-dimension stained" look (such as on Bobbett's current GB offeri...
