Re: New Member and New(ish) Krag
As for not apparent things in taking down the Krag. The pin holding the trigger assembly is tapered. Trying to push it or hammer it out in the wrong direction will break the trigger. I had to make a new one years ago because I did not pay attention. I think every thing else is straight forward.

Re: 1898 Target Rifle Build
If you replace all those nickel plated parts, when you finish you will have a pile of nickel plated parts that will look an awful lot like what you started with. If the plating is good and not flaking on the edges and corners, could you put a stainless barrel on it and have an all weather sporter? I...

Re: 1898 Target Rifle Build
The gun you are comptiplating will have no value to a collector, but the action will still have easy loading , smooth cycling. If the gun you end up with fits a need go for it. I have one from a grandfather that is almost original and would not dream of modifying it. The one from my uncle was alread...

I can not help but think you have 2 issues going on. Head space issues maybe indicated by the primer backing out. Your trouble with the sealing may be an oversize chamber. I just checked the SAAMI dimensions for both the chamber and cartridge. You should have a little over .001 inches clearance betw...

Re: Extractor cut on barrel
After I posted this I gave the extractor a hard look put it back on the bolt. It was a piece of cake getting the offset measurements off the extractor.<br /> For anyone else rebarreling a Krag, the offset of extractor cut is .029 to .030" or .75mm. The radius on the exctractor is in the middle ...

Extractor cut on barrel
Rebarreling a sporter to 35/30/40 Krag. I have just cut the threads and was setting up to do the extractor cut. I just took my first close look at the old barrel and found the cut has a radius on the bottom of the groove. The slot itself is not centered and the radius on the bottom is not centered. ...
