Re: Harder Cast Bullets
I have found the harder the better. I use straight Linotype or its equivalent. If you are going for accuracy alone 311291, 311332 or 314299 are usually the most dependable for giving bullseye accuracy. My first choice would be 311291 sized bore diameter with 15 to 18 grains of 5744 or 4227 held in p...

Re: There I was...
My 2 cents. I do not think you have a problem with over pressure. There is quite a dance that goes on when the primer goes off. The pressure in the primer pocket shoots up before the powder ignites, the pressure forces the primer to the rear as if it were a piston and the pressure on the front of th...

Re: Krag Bolt with apparent crack
The picture of the broken bolt looks like the pictures that Hatcher had of ’03 receivers that were “burned” in the single heat treat receivers. From his description of Springfield’s process for heat treating it was very sloppy compared to the way it was done later, pretty much a by eyeball and seat ...

Re: Krag Bolt with apparent crack
Sorry to ask a question. 42 gr of IMR 4350 is to hot with a 220gr bullet? DuPont listed 43 gr of IMR 4350 and a 220 gr Remington corelock using W-W brass and W-W primer at 38700 CUP and 2205 FPS out of a 25.5 inch barrel in the February 1976 Rifleman?? Hodgdon lists 42 gr of H 4350 as their max I pe...

Re: Wide front sight blade?
I know of no wider front sight blade. FredC may have one possible solution. However if I may add a suggest, do a Google search for " Merit Optical Attachment ". 20 some years ago I had to put the Krag and the'03's away because I couldn't see the sight anymore. About 15 years ago I picked u...

Re: Help with accuracy
Thank you for your concern. Yes rifles were ruined by reduced charges of H-4831 with or without wading. The NRA investigated this in the ‘60s, I believe with the help of H.P White labs. The tests were never able to replicate the problem in the lab but all agreed that there were too many reports from...

Help with accuracy
I have found the Krag is capable of fine accuracy given the right loads and being handled properly. I have found the stock is part of the problem due to the weakness caused by the magazine. Now days I use what I have found was called the “Texas hold”. In the Texas hold the rifle is held or supported...
