Re: help identifying my model 1898 krag

<r>'Marathon44': Welcome to the KCA Forum. You are fortunate to be the custodian of a U.S. Krag that has been in your family for a long time.<br /><br />The 'Spanish War' was of short duration (April 21, 1898 toAugust 13, 1898). Model 1898 Krag production started July 8, 1898. Most U.S. Army Regular...

Re: Hello the Camp

'mattds45': That is a mighty nice looking model 1896 Krag rifle with 'goodies'. I'm glad it wasn't at New Cumberland, Pa., on 5/17/29, whatever was going on there!

Thanks for posting a picture and sharing.

'Mac': Stop -- Less is more. Do no Harm! <br /><br />Many collectible arms are ruined by "cleaning up" and "restoration". 'Now' is the time to take some clear & detailed digital photos and get feed-back on how to proceed.<br /><br />The finish and appearance of an original Kr...

Krag semi-auto

<r>This interesting Swedish design, the "Snabb38", was adapted to at least one Norwegian Krag. Photos of this ultra-rare 6.5X55mm rifle are displayed on the Gunboard's Forums (Scandinavian rifles).<br /><br />Gosh, I thought the U.S. Krag stocks were fragile! <IMG src="https://kragcollecto...

Re: Hello the Camp

'mattds45': Welcome to the KCA Forum.<br /><br />Only a very small percentage of Krag serial numbers appeared in official records and documents. Your Model 1896 Rifle, #55374, was made around February, 1897. Completed Krag receivers were numbered and put into parts bins. Assembly and acceptance of c...

Re: Krag Carbine Identification

<r>"Mac": Welcome to the KCA Forum. Sounds like your father left you a nice item. Although your carbine, #28270, is marked '1895', it is considered a Model 1896 carbine. <br /><br />It is not one that was issued to the "Rough Riders" (Teddy Roosevelt's 1st U.S.V.). However, it is...

Re: 1894 rifle restoration project

<r>Dick: Is that a later model 1896 or an early model 1898 side-plate (before they changed the bevel on the upper rear corner)?<IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/yabbfiles/Attachments/krg_1894.jpg"><s>[img]</s><URL url="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/...

<r>Krag 'Sporter' stocks spoke to many tastes. Re: 1894 rifle restoration project

'gaerich': Welcome to the KCA Forum!<br /><br />If it were mine (depending on bore condition), I would play with it as is, while also slowly and economically accumulating parts for a restoration. You have to be patient and shop gun shows and the internet and educate yourself. Your 1894 dated Krag wa...
