Re: 1887 Prototype #5

Yes, that is what it looks like, the rounded, Rasmussen rifling like in the Danish Krags. The barrel does have a flat crown, too.

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

I have not talked with the gentleman I purchased it from yet, but am working on setting up a time to chat with him. It does not look like #5 was made with a magazine cutoff. There is no place or gap on the receiver where that would be missing. The rifling looks like the rifling in my Model 1889 Dani...

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

The bolt taken apart. The bolt face is flat, no rim. The end of the extractor is notched to fit on the rim.

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

Close up of the inside of action. The little half-moon notch is the ejector. It doesn't throw it too far, but the case does flip out of the way.
The magazine is not attached to the receiver. It sits in the stock and then the action sits on top.

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

Top view of action. Again, notice the extractor is not pinned to rotate. The #5 on the side of the trigger guard.

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

The rear of the action. The #5 on the bolt. Notice, no safety on the side. It has a half-cock safety. Also, notice that the extractor is not pinned to swing to the side as you take the bolt out. It is spring steel, so you pull it up and rotate the bolt. The extractor just rotates down along the left...
