Another Sedgley Krag
<r>This is a Sedgley 1898 Krag sporter that I own (serial #126069). It has the Sedgley 'S' stamped on the receiver ring. The bolt locking lug has been lapped so that the bolt rib makes contact with the receiver. The barrel is a, 1905 S.A. dated, 1903 Springfield barrel. The breech has been shortened...

Re: Sedgley Krag 1898
mark392001: The gunbroker listing you shared shows how "3rd Worldish" some of the guns cobbled together by Sedgley, Kirk Stokes, and Bannerman were. The Sedgley on gunbroker utilizes a reworked 1903 Springfield stock. The barrel band is improvised. The handguard and rear-sight are 1892 Kra...

Re: Sedgley Krag 1898
mark392001: Your research is correct about the Sedgley "s" mark on the barrel of your Krag sporter. It appears Sedgley converted some Krags into low cost sporters by recycling GI parts in novel ways to keep costs down. Your carbine rear sight is probably worth a couple of hundred dollars. ...

jabberwacky: Try contacting Dan Lowery mentioned in the KCA classifieds: oldewoodsman@bellsouth.net. I believe he has an assortment of salvageable stocks and gives a discount to KCA members. Chuck McArthur

Re: new member and gun
drwgblanks: Your photos are pretty rough so it is hard to make out alot of details on your Krag. It appears by serial # to be an 1898 rifle that was built in Sept. or Oct. of 1902. It appears the barrel and stock have been shortened to approx. carbine length for hunting. It is likely the front sight...

Re: Cleaning my Krag
sarge: Your stock cartouche - "JSA 1899" is quite clear in your photo. This stock was on a rifle that was inspected and accepted into U.S. service in 1899. Your action (#461045) and its barrel were probably built in July 1903. Somewhere along the way, an earlier stock was united to a later...

Re: Cleaning my Krag
Mark: Your stock cartouche reads in script "JSA 1899" for J.S. Adams (inspector). Your Krag receiver, #461045, I believe was made in July 1903. I imagine your rifle is now a "mixmaster" of parts put together to make a serviceable rifle for Veterans' Ceremonies. It is neat it has ...
