Your cat is a fan of "All In The Family", it appears. No Meat Head cat there!

Archie Bunker Was Right!

So, the 1891 US patent for toilet paper shows that the paper rolls over from the top. I learned this from "All In The Family" when I was a kid where Archie Bunker set Edith and the Meat Head right about mounting the toilet paper properly. I have a habit of always switching it, still, if it...

Re: Krag Carbine Front Sight Base Location?

Stretch, The Krag rifle and carbine, as made at Springfield Armory, had the same setback and mounting criteria for the base of the front sight. The blade was different depending on the calibration of the rear sight for each rifle and carbine rear sight. The base is cleanly and seamlessly inserted in...

Re: Serial number???

77961 made around October 1897. Model 1896 Krag carbine. Upgraded with different stock and apparently a Model 1901 rear sight, hopefully carbine, with the neat humped hand guard. What's not to like? If this is as described and not some cut down thingy, I'd buy it if the price is right. Bore conditio...

Re: 71

I like how you say it's a "complete set" but it doesn't have the stock, hand guard and cleaning rod (ramrod). I chuckled at that one!

That's sure a low number. Are any of the parts serialized?

Re: Looking for help. 1898 carbine??

A wolf in sheep's clothing? The one picture looks like a carbine stock but the serial number cannot be a Model 1898 carbine. Authentic Model 1898 carbines usually run in the serial number range around 118,000 - 134,000. Could be an authentic Model 1898 or Model 1899 carbine stock with a Model 1902 r...

Re: J.F.C. Stock Cartouche on 1898 Krag Rifle?

I don't know why someone would fake a J. F. C. cartouche on a Krag. I don't think this cartouche, which appears real on op's Krag, is fake. It just adds a level of mystique to his rifle that we will not likely solve, as to why it's there, for certain. He has a great Krag treasure! Nice list Moose!
