Re: The Hollandtown Shut with a Krag

Wow, great history. We did stop at our local Holland Town Schut on Sunday afternoon. I wanted to see how it was shot. Large turnout. Parking lot was full. Many familys with lawn chairs, picnic lunches. Kids and grand kids. All wearing hearing protection. No alcahol until after the shooting is done. ...

The Hollandtown Shut with a Krag

In North Eastern WI in the midwestern USA we have some interesting shooting traditions. Krag shooters may find this interesting. Various European immigrant groups setteled here including a significant group from Holland. For the past 172 years, the people of Hollandtown USA hold an old tradition cal...

Re: A Possible Future Range Experiment

My must apologize for missing this interesting post. I've used many of the no drill sights and have a few opinions about features and benefits. Where you thinking of just comparing a few random guns with the various sights? Or would the experiment require one Shooter, one rifle, same ammunition at t...

Re: Fantasy Swedish Mauser Carbine

The subject of the added barrel extension was mentioned. Adding a short piece to the muzzle to make the length 18 inches.

This is what that modification looks like close up

Re: Fantasy Swedish Mauser Carbine

Back in the 1960's my father purchased a Swedish carbine that arrived at the Montgomery Wards store damaged in shipment. The stock was broken on the fore end and the front metal was missing. Bargain basement. Dad brought it home and cleaned it up as you have. Added a Williams receiver sight and a ra...

Re: IMR 4198 And Confusing (to me) Load Data

In my 30-40 Krag reloading world I've used IMR 4198 with many cast bullet combinations for many years. The Lyman Cast bullet manuals (old and new) always list IMR 4198 for use with 170 to 200 grain cast bullets. My best cast bullet accuracy with IMR 4198 with 200 Grain bullet low power loads are in ...

1933 Michigan Deer Hunters

A friend passed this photo to me. Michigan Upper Peninsula deer camp 1933 on Drummond Island on the far eastern end of the peninsula. Interesting group. A mix of shotguns, lever action rifles and a couple modified service rifles. I highlighted the man in the center right with his Krag. Jeff The Cate...

Vintage Military Match With a Bren

Speaking of match shooting. The summer season is coming. I always like to see what turns out for the CMP vintage matches. This photo was taken at the CMP games matches in Oklahoma a couple years ago. Gotta love a guy like this. Semi auto British Bren, firing offhand at 200 yards. Read the rules ref....

Re: Best Bullet for Match Shooting (Not a 30-40 Question)

OK I will confess that I do shoot an AR in competition. Of course I must say I like the sight radius of a M1898 Krag rifle more better. But since you asked. We generally used to shoot 69 Gr BTHP bullets at 200 and 300 yards and switch to 80 grain at 600 yards. We have learned with reloading (in quan...
