Re: Why did the US go with the Krag design?
I think we are too hung up on the technical design features. Find a copy of the book "MISFIRE" How America's small arms have failed our military. Chapter 18 details the political, industrial and military officer personalities that bucked and thrashed over the Krag. "Scandalous bureauc...

Re: Show me a nice stock Cartouche
Baltimoreed has shown us a very nice 1896. One I would gladly show off with pride in my collection. Having been carefully cleaned and kept original, I think I see the variation in the stock cartouche. Looking carefully at an enlargement, I think what has occurred, is what is called a "restrike&...

Re: Show me a nice stock Cartouche
When I started the post I intended it to share some collections for fun. Never intending to raise questions about Cartouche authenticity. But it caused me to study the close up photography of multiple cartouches. I noticed that the border on the originals does NOT have a constant radius on each corn...

The Uberti does not have any muzzle crown either. But I looked over the exit pattern after firing. I just need to be careful to preserve it.

Re: Baltimore Antique Arms Show
Wish I was there! Took my father to the show there 25 years ago to meet Col Bill Mook. Dad and Bill went all over the show and looked at lots of Krags that day. We went to dinner after. What a treat to listen to two old combat soldiers talk about guns. Sure do miss them both. Enjoy the show. Jeff th...

Range Test 30-40 single shot 1885
I loaded up some 30-40 test rounds with some old Remington round nose to try the new 19885 rifle. Nice spring day here in Wisconsin. Fired several groups for group with iron sights at 100 yards. Pretty pleased with first test. A few extraction issues. I think the chamber needs a bit of polishing. Ba...

New single shot 30-40 Krag
While walking the recent Sioux falls SD gun show past all 1200 tables, I happened to be on the lookout for a single shot target rifle possibly in 32-40 Late in the day found this reproduction of the Winchester 1885. It is a well made Uberti. I almost passed it by, thinking it was just another 45-70....

Re: Hi All.... Long time no see
Was just wondering about you a few days ago. Great to hear from you.
We all have missed people places and shooting events in the past couple years.
Here is to a new shooting season and hope to see you on the range!
