The are most likely assembly marks of some sort. We did an exhaustive study of these marks a few years ago and found no specific patterns. Great to have a good bore. These rifles can shoot! Paul is our expert in this department.

I think rebarreling on a larger scale was due to availability of surplus ammunition. .30-40 Krag and .303 British went through periods of easy availability and cheap pricing more than .32 caliber ammunition.
