Re: Maybe I should not have bought this.
Kroil is the secret to removing copper, or any barrel fouling for that matter. It is a very fine oil - the oil that kreeps! Some have even complained it kreeps so well the metal can won't contain it after a while. I have a good Kroil stain on my shelf from this. The can has a "for industrial us...

Re: Criterion Barrels
I'm not using the rear sight holes on my Criterion barrel but I believe they are 8x32 which are not original but more readily available which may be why they went with it.

Re: Larry Koller's Krag
<r>The latest version of this book also pays tribute to Larry's Krag by adding an imprint of it at the end of each chapter. <br /><br />I have taken the concept of a Krag sporter carbine and "Shots at Whitetails" to heart with the final configuration of my sporter SN 456713 being cut to 20...

Re: Larry Koller's Krag
<r>I purchased the 1970 version of the book from the Outdoor Life Book Club shortly after it was first offered. And when the latest version came out I picked up one of those - mainly to save wear and tear on the older version. I subsequently bought several more to give as gifts to family and deer hu...

Larry Koller's Krag
In the thread about looking for a home for a set of 250 Savage dies I mentioned Larry Koller in his classic "Shots at Whitetails" was a proponent of the 250-3000 for deer hunting. But long before and after using that cartridge his favorite was the 30-40 shot from the Krag sporter he built ...

Re: Criterion Barrels
<r>Definitely not a working dovetail. <br /><br />Put it in a vise between boards and gave it several good raps and it didn't budge. <br /><br />Didn't take much with a mapp gas torch to separate them. Looks like a silver solder applied on both pieces then combined and heated again but others may kn...

Re: Criterion Barrels
<r>Why go away for a holiday weekend when you can stay home and look at Krag sight pictures? <br /><br />Here are a couple backgrounds and some different angles of the S&S base on a Criterion barrel stub.<IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/yabbfiles/Attachments/IMG_...

Re: Criterion Barrels
I just picked up sporter 456713 from a local gunsmith after having the barrel shortened and d/t for a regular dovetailed sight base as the solution for the overturned barrel/crooked front sight. I saved the Criterion stub with the S&S sight base attached that is in the picture BR posted above. I...
