Hello and welcome.

Your Krag rifle is the same as the standard Norwegian Model 1894 military service rifle, but it was not produced in the Kongsberg Vapenfabrikk. In 1896 and 1897 Norwegian Model 1894 rifles were also built by the firm Steyr in that firearms factory.

Military Krag rifles built at Steyr in 1897 are in the serial number range 10201 to 20000 and 30001 to 39000. There were also a smaller number of rifles built at Steyr for civilian sales at the same time. They are marked differently.

There are several books in Norwegian language that detail the Norwegian rifles. Karl Egil Hanevik is a good author. Look for his books on the Krag Gevaeret.

All the components of each rifle are serial numbered together. A rifle with all matching numbers is the most desirable for collectors. The Steyr built rifles are very well made.

Close pictures of the markings would help identify more about your rifle.

Good shooting

'blokker' - I saved these photographs of a Steyr Handbook (from 1896), when Steyr had a contract to manufacture some Krag-Jorgensen Rifles for Norway.

I do not remember who or where these were posted.
