Krag originally did develop his magazine systems to be able to work with a variety of rifle systems. During danish trials the first rifles which used the magazine were the Jarmann, but the idea of pairing it with a Mauser action was also considered. Krag also made experimental magazines for the Gras in the early 1900s to convert it into a 5-round magazine which worked very much like a K-J magazine, but was straight and mounted on the left-hand side of the Gras rather than a capsule that wrapped under the action. Experimental magazines were done with several Lees as well.

I have not talked with the gentleman I purchased it from yet, but am working on setting up a time to chat with him.

It does not look like #5 was made with a magazine cutoff. There is no place or gap on the receiver where that would be missing.

The rifling looks like the rifling in my Model 1889 Danish Krags. I am having a hard time trying to get pictures of the bore and rifling. To the eye it has a good bore and strong rifling.

Tom: Does it appear to be the 'round-cornered' Rasmussen rifling?

Yes, that is what it looks like, the rounded, Rasmussen rifling like in the Danish Krags. The barrel does have a flat crown, too.

Sorry I didn't ask earlier, Tom, but how long is the barrel on this novel and early Krag?

It is a 30" barrel, with flat crown.
