Highly Experienced Krag Hunter

Post by butlersrangers »

Oregon Hunter Jon Norstog was Elk Hunting with his Krag in the Bitteroots, about a month ago.

He posts on Jouster2 and has a life of extensive Wilderness Hunting with Krags and Remington-Lee sporting rifles, chambered for the .30-40 caliber.

Jon gave permission to post his recent photo on the KCA Forum.

Jon provided some more pictures of his altered Krag to share with KCA members. He says it is one of his favorite hunting rifles and a fine performer out to 200 yards.

He appears to have re-barreled with an altered model 70 barrel, (re-chambered for .30-40). I am sure everything works better with a Winchester part!

Jon secured the 'tail' of his Redfield 70-KH 'no-drill' sight, by joining it to a Pacific K-1 base, which replaces the Krag cut-off lever.
This is solid and allows smooth cartridge-feed while eliminating 'cut-off' issues. Clever!

Adapting a .30-06 model 70 Winchester barrel to fit and index on a Krag action & chamber .30-40 cartridges required some nice machinist skills.
