The other Krag

Post by butlersrangers »

What do you get when you mix design and construction features of the original Peabody, Peabody-Martini, and Swedish/Norwegian rolling-block rifles, coupled to the Swiss Vetterli tube-magazine?

Well, a Krag-Petersson Rifle!

Only about 900 of these rifles were made (in Norway and Sweden, combined) for the Norwegian Navy and palace guards.

The arms were chambered for the 12.17 X 44 mm rim-fired cartridge.
(IMHO - The design probably lacked a robust extraction system).

The Krag-Petersson represents one of Ole H. J. Krag's early successful collaborations in gun design and manufacture.

I believe it’s Latin, not Greek:

To the Republic of these United States of America, I am strong and free. I will never surrender to godless communist socialism. Pray to images in your demented mind, that you will have mercy, because i will not.

Now that is Greek…

Molon labe, meaning 'come and take [them]', is a classical expression of defiance. It is among the Laconic phrases reported by Plutarch, attributed to King Leonidas I in reply to the demand by Xerxes I that the Spartans surrender their weapons.
