Interesting displays at Michigan Show

Mr. Daniel Parker had an interesting collection of items that came from Ludington, Michigan.
An ultra-rare 7mm Remington Rolling-Block (model 1896 rifle) engraved "Niagara", on the top of the action, is one of 35 such rifles.
William Randolph Hearst and other New York Millionaires displayed their patriotism by purchasing the 'auxiliary cruiser', "The USS Niagara", for the USN during the Spanish War.
The influential New Yorkers equipped the ship with custom arms, a sea water distillation unit, and fine china.
The ship had a crew of over 30 men, twelve of them were U.S. Marines.
The 7mm Rolling-Block rifles and distinctive accouterments were the arms of the Marines and Sailors, as the U.S.S. Niagara help patrol and provide drinking water in the Cuba Campaign.
One of the Niagara's Marines was Charles Daniel Rhodes, who served over 35 years in the USMC and rose to the rank of Sergeant. His Ludington Niece kept his stash of U.S.S. Niagara items, together,
until the complete collection was sold to Mr. Parker.
