Krag rifles in Nicaragua

Post by butlersrangers »

It would be interesting to know the number of U.S. Krag rifles that went to Nicaragua in the 1927 to 1934 period called the "Sandino Rebellion". The U.S. Marines' intervention included the raising and training of 'Volunterios' and the 'Guardia Nacional'. I imagine the Krags stayed in Nicaragua?

Reminds me of seeing TV clips of US-backed "Contras" in the 1980's - armed with Model of 1917 ("Enfield") rifles. Nothing but the latest and best for our "friends"?

That is a good question whether they stayed there or not, I would love to see someone bringing in surplus krags back into the country, although that is very unlikely, at least I can rest easy as I couldn't spot any carbines.
When the CMP was bringing in Garands from the Philippines it is too bad they had not stored their Constabulary rifles with them. I mean dumped in the ocean, that is hard to swallow.

Pretty modern in 1928 with model 1907 slings on the Krags and the Marines supplied through aviation!
