After the last discussion I picked up a can at the store and looked at the ingredients. Can seemed smaller and lighter than the last one I bought many years ago.
It would be interesting to have a can from the 60s and one from the forties to compare listed ingredients, volume and weight.

They probably reduced the iron content. The cans were changed from steel to aluminum.

Aluminum cans might explain part of the reduced weight?

both of my grandfathers HATED spam. in the army back in WW2, they both got spam breakfast, spam lunch and spam supper. they had spam as a snack too. it must be genetic, i dislike spam too.
