Your additional piece between the mount and the side cover would be attached near the side cover screw making it extra firm (a good thing). Looks like I see a little daylight between the side plate and your additional piece. Are you planning to shim it or do you have another plan?

I did a little measuring of a Krag side plate. Possibly you could find this information helpful in making that extra brace work on your SK mount.
I am attaching a photo of the mount with a near match on the side plate. The pipe fitting has an ID of 2.054 more or less. That would give a 1.025 radius for the main part of the side plate. On the top and bottom edge is a smaller blended radius of about 17/64. Top and bottom were both close to that figure.

It would be difficult to get a perfect fit between the adapter and the plate. A flat shim could get you a single line of contact which would be pretty good. A shim made from a bushing with a 2.05 ID and a flat on the outside could be better. Also thought of filling the space if there is any with bedding compound, trimming it to the adapter could give a neat appearance. Then there are all the ways I have not thought of that might be bigger better and faster.
