cocking pieces

one of my cocking pieces is different ... the one on the left is flat on top instead of rounded ...

I suspect that the bolt sleve was modified to clear a receiver mounted sight or scope.
I believe all cocking pieces and rods are threaded just better fit and less obvious. Looks like some one might have been doing a build your own custom of sorts.

on a Mosin Nagaunt you adjust the depth of the firing pin by turning the cocking piece in or out and measuring it with a tool ... was the Krag ever had a adjustable firing pin ...

I think your right it has been milled off .. and probably for a scope or sight ....

Here is an example of a Krag rifle modified to a sporter configuration.

The bolt sleeve has been modified to a flat top to provide clearance for the Redfield Rear No Drill sight.
