Visiting Springfield Armory

Got into Springfield, Massachusetts, late today. First time, my wife and I have been here.
Actually, it is just a quick stop on our trip to Acadia National Park in Maine.

My wife and I will tour the NPS Armory Museum , tomorrow.
Covid restrictions will put a limit on what we will see.
(It is not quite the trip I would have planned in normal times, but, I will be happy to see what is on public display).

My wife is a good sport and put up with me navigating 'sketchy' areas of town to get to the Byers Street Gate and down Walnut Street to the Water Shops location. (I owe her big time)!

After spending the morning duplicating Krag stocks on the Blanchard Lathe, I needed to take a break.

:D Were you using American or Italian walnut for the stocks?

I will not tell any one, but King Carp has the "gift" also.
Keep the photos coming, we know it really happened now.

Good on ya. Are you going to have time to ream and rifle any barrels, or have you already done that?

That is work that was done at the Watershops. The machinery is all gone.

They torched holes in the dam gates and the water level in the mill pond is very low.

Most of my Springfield photos will need editing on my desk-top computer, so I can't post more until I get home.

Our travels have taken us on to Sturbridge Village, Lexington & Concord, and Bar Harbor, Maine.

It's pretty neat out East!

Did you see my cousin Abel Hosmer's name on the (other) monument?

KIA 19 April 1775, at the bridge.

I still hope to get to SA some day, but it's a much longer trip for me. The present curator, Alex MacKenzie is a GREAT guy - very friendly and helpful and KNOWLEDGEABLE, unlike his predecessors, some of whom were ignorant, impolite, dickheads!

What a great trip BR! We visited those sites along with others such as Mystic Seaport many years ago as youngsters. I would love to do that loop agin see what time has done!

Ah yes, Bah Habah!

Some of our grandkids, from Northern CA, are Mainers now (Hampden). Upon graduation from medical school in Nebraska, he took a position about as far away from "home" as you could get. They love Maine and have NO plans whatsoever to return to the Granola State!
